The First-Year Student Experience is a hybrid orientation program (containing virtual and in-person components) designed to help first-year students with their academic, personal, social, and cultural transition into the Westminster and Salt Lake City community. This program is geared towards first-year students and occurs prior to the start of your fall classes. The program includes a mix of engaging and educational activities throughout campus and online.
If you registered for your classes through a Griffin GearUp program, you have automatically been registered for the First-Year Student Experience. You will receive an email in late July, verifying your student information that is needed for the program (i.e., dietary restrictions and t-shirt size).
What to Expect
The First-Year Student Experience is a hybrid program with virtual and in-person components.
Some virtual components will begin the week of August 3 and will continue through the end of the in-person components.
The in-person components for the program begin on August 15 (the day after move-in day) and will continue each day through August 18. Classes begin on August 19.
Honors College and International Students
Students who are admitted into the Honors College and international students will begin their in-person First-Year Student Experience on August 14, with a pre-orientation program led by the Honors College (for Honors students) and the Office of Global Engagement (for international students).
The Associated Students of Westminster College (ASW) events team will additionally have optional activities every night of your orientation experience and throughout the first week of the semester to help you meet other students.
Cost and Billing
The cost of orientation is billed to your student account as a mandatory $300 fee that covers all program and administrative costs to run New Student Orientation and your Griffin GearUp experience.
The schedule is currently being adjusted to ensure that appropriate safety measures are being followed while still delivering a high-impact hybrid experience. You can expect to see an outline of the 2020 schedule posted by July 20, 2020.
