Alternative Transportation Options
As a member of the Westminster community, you have access to multiple transportation options that can cut down on
your total greenhouse gas emissions during your commute.
- Free UTA premium transit pass: Current students, faculty, and staff receive an ID card that
serves as a free UTA premium transit pass. For questions, visit the reception desk in the Health, Wellness, and
Athletic Center.
- Long-term bike rental: The Bike Collective
offers a few long-term bike rental options.
- Designated green parking: Parking spots are available for carpools and fuel-efficient vehicles
in the lot between Hewett and Foster Hall.
- Electric vehicle charging stations: Charging stations are located on the main floor of the
northwest parking structure.
- Rideshare board: The center puts up a board in Bassis two weeks before every break to connect
people and help them carpool to their destination.

Princeton Review Green College
Westminster has been included on The Princeton Review’s Green Colleges list for several years running. Their
guide gives us particular recognition for the way our students fuel the environmental movement on campus.
STARS Silver Rating
In 2011, 2014, and 2016, Westminster earned a Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS) silver
rating. This tool measures dozens of indicators of sustainability. Westminster does particularly well in student and
community engagement.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Westminster is committed to sustainability. Below are some ways to effectively reduce, reuse, and recycle:
- Choose reusable dishes and silverware in Shaw.
- Buy products with minimal packaging.
- Use one-sided prints as scratch paper.
- Place all plastics, paper, and aluminum in the blue recycling bins around campus.
- Recycle glass at Shaw.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
At Westminster, we care about improving our greenhouse gas emissions through smart energy use, alternative
transportation options, and recycling initiatives. We invest in solar panels and off-campus renewable energy to
assure that about 8–10% of the total electricity the college uses comes from emission-free sources.
