Frequently Asked Questions

Program Schedule

  • A general schedule of the day is on the GearUp website, but the program will run from 10:00 am check-in until 5:00 pm for all guests. Lunch and Dinner are provided and dinner will end the formal program. Anyone staying for the overnight will prepare to leave after dinner. Stick around and eat with your guest and new classmates even if you are not heading up to the mountains!
  • Students will be randomly placed in groups, which rotate through information sessions during the day. Each schedule will be different for the day, but program components can be found on the GearUp website.

  • Parking on campus is FREE during Griffin GearUp programs. Please park your vehicle in the Parking Garage off Dumke Field Parking Structure, especially if you are parking overnight*.

*OVERNIGHT PARKING: Please make sure your vehicle is listed for the overnight parking–the list can be found at the check-in table.

  • Hours: 10:00 am–2:30 pm
  • The Bookstore has all the items you need for the school year and will be open during GearUp days!

Program Meals

  • Lunch: 11:30 am–1:00 pm
  • Dinner: 5:00 pm–6:00 pm
  • Catered meals are provided, which should fit most diets (gluten free and vegan options). If you have specific dietary restrictions, let us know and the catering staff can prepare separate meals on the side.

Roost Camp (Overnight portion)

  • While not mandatory, this part is the best, even if you are a local and know everything about the mountains already. Come stay in a huge cozy cabin, hang out around a bonfire after some fun inside activities, and share stories about college life. Use the packing list to make sure you’re comfortable.

Program Evaluations

We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our Griffin Gear Up programs. Please take time during the program to complete a program evaluation, as your feedback is valuable to our future success

  • Parent/Guest Evaluations: Program evaluations will be passed out during the first part of the morning for Parent/Guest and will be collected during dinner.
  • Student Evaluations: Program evaluations can be picked up at the check-in tables, along with parent/guest evaluations. Your evaluation will be collected during dinner (if you are not staying) or on the bus on your way back to campus following the overnight trip.
