Giovale Library

Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Giovale Library will be closed, however, the library is committed to supporting you and providing the best service it can at this time.

Giovale Library thanks you for your patience. If you have any questions or concerns, email Emily Swanson at

Research Assistance

Face-to-face research assistance has been suspended but librarians will continue to be available through email and chat for you to get research help.

Additionally, the library provides subject-specific research guides as a good starting point for many research needs. New subjects are added as time permits. Additionally, the library’s YouTube channel has video tutorials on the following information:

Information Literacy

We will no longer be providing in-person information literacy sessions, however, librarians can tailor their sessions to online courses. Faculty can contact their liaison librarian for more information.

Library Collection

The majority of the library’s collection is available electronically and can be accessed from anywhere on or off campus. You can search for physical books, electronic books, articles, and more in GriffinSearch or you can search a specific database directly. When accessing databases and GriffinSearch from off campus, you will have to log in using your Westminster username and password. The library will provide access to its book, DVD, AV equipment, and course reserves collections by appointment. Please email to set up an appointment.

Due Dates

For the time being, due dates for all circulating items (except the course reserves collection and Interlibrary Loans) have been extended until the end of the semester.

Interlibrary Loan

The library currently still provides Interlibrary Loan services for print materials; however, the library may not be able to borrow everything due to lending library closures. Delivery time may vary due to circumstances at lending libraries. Once your request is made, the Interlibrary Loan office will work with you to set up an appointment to pick up your item.

Interlibrary Loan services for electronic materials will continue as staffing permits, however, delivery speed may be affected by staffing at Giovale Library and lending libraries across the nation.

As long as staffing permits, the library will continue to circulate physical reserve items. Scans of chapters from books on reserve can be requested remotely by filling out the request form. To make arrangement to pick up a reserve item, please email

The library is working with Information Services to loan laptops to students that are without a mobile device. Pick up will be by appointment only at Giovale Library. If you need a laptop, you can submit a Help Desk Request.
