Meet the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team

Marco Barker

Marco Barker, PhD

Associate Vice President for DEI and Chief Diversity Officer

Dr. Barker oversees the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and serves as the chief diversity officer for Westminster College. In his role, he provides direct supervision of DEI and provides leadership on Westminster’s strategy for bolstering diversity, advancing equity, and enhancing inclusion across the institution. Dr. Barker’s research, publications, and consultations address cross-race mentoring and advising relationships, doctoral education, diversity, and leadership in higher education. He earned his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas, his MBA from Webster University, and his PhD in educational leadership and research from Louisiana State University. He currently serves as co-chair of the human resource committee of the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education’s National Advisory Council, a board member of the University of Arkansas’s Black Alumni Association, and as a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.

Chris Davids

Chris Davids, PhD

Faculty Fellow

Dr. Davids currently serves as faculty fellow for diversity, equity, and inclusion—a joint appointment with the Office of the Provost and DEI. As faculty fellow for DEI, Dr. Davids develops and coordinates campus-wide diversity education opportunities for Westminster, in addition to supporting special programs within DEI, such as the Bastian Lecture Series. He previously served on the Westminster College Diversity Council and is a current member of the Bias Response Team. Locally, Dr. Davids is on the board of the Affirmative Therapist Guild of Utah; nationally, he is on the board of the Society of the Psychological Study for Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. In addition to teaching in the psychology department and providing therapy services in his private practice, Dr. Davids is a published feminist-multicultural researcher in the areas of sexual objectification, body image, sexuality, and gender. He received his MA in counseling and guidance and his PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Maggie Burns

Lead Diversity Programs Coordinator

Maggie attended Boston University for three years and transferred to Westminster College in the fall of 2018. She is studying neuroscience with the intention of practicing medicine with a social advocacy spin. The past five summers, Maggie has volunteered with the Inclusion Center for Community and Justice, serving as a camp counselor and adviser for their annual Camp Anytown. She is continuing her work in social justice as the Lead Diversity Programs Coordinator for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Westminster College. Her primary responsibility is planning and overseeing all DEI events such as the MLK Celebration, as well as supporting the Strategic Planning and Steering Committee.

Sophia Cutrubus

Assistant to the Faculty Fellow

Sophia grew up in Ogden, Utah. She is a first-year student at Westminster. Currently, she studies Dance and Biology. In her position as the assistant to Dr. Chris Davids, the faculty fellow of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, she helps coordinate DEI programming across campus.

Kimberly Mendieta

Administrative Coordinator Intern II

Kimberly is a Los Angeles native who is interested in aviation and politics. She is currently a freshman studying Aviation Management at Westminster College. Kimberly is multilingual and enjoys learning about different cultures. She is looking forward to working at the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion this year.

Diego Moscoso

Diego Moscoso

Office Administrator

Diego was born in Peru, where he spent the first eight years of his life. He then moved to Park City, Utah, and has lived there ever since. Diego is now a senior at Westminster College, studying international business and Spanish. He plans to graduate December 2018 and is looking forward to his future endeavors. Currently, he works as the office administrator in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. He helps with everything around the office, with a focus on accounting and financial transactions, managing supply usage and orders, entering data and evaluations, mail and information distribution.

Aaba Shadali

Program Coordinator Intern

Aaba is the Program Coordinator Intern at the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), she is a currently a freshman studying neuroscience and pre-med at Westminster College. Aaba is from Seattle, Washington but has lived in Salt Lake City, Utah for four years. Aaba is involved with Legacy Scholars, Black Student Union, and Maliheh Free Clinic. After graduation, Aaba intends to head to medical school, and later join Doctors Beyond Borders.

Cathy Taylor

Communications Coordinator Intern

Cathy is the Communications Coordinator Intern for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She is currently a freshman at Westminster College and is studying communications and the arts. She was born in Ogden, and raised in Clinton, Utah. Previously, Cathy served as both a section editor and the Senior Editor of Syracuse High School's yearbook staff. Cathy was a TX Correspondent at the Standard Examiner from 2016–2018 throughout her high school career, where she illustrated articles and wrote columns about current events and controversial issues.

Ebony Tyler

Lead Communications Coordinator

Ebony is a Utah native in her fourth year pursuing a customized degree in Education and Equity. Ebony is passionate about the work that she does in the DEI office and across campus in relation to diversity and inclusion. Outside of school and work, she is interested in activism, spoken word poetry, music, and spending time with the people closes to her.

Lian Xue

Administrative Coordinator Intern I

Lian was born in China and is currently a freshman student at Westminster. She is majoring in Finance and minoring in Data Science. Lian is now an Administrative Coordinator Intern in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office. Lian helps with accounting and placing orders for the office. She is very passionate about working in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office.
